Use and navigate : user experience of students with visual disabilities on the website of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana

La presente investigación recoge la experiencia de tres estudiantes con deficiencia visual y los aportes y sugerencias de dos expertos en accesibilidad, diseño y discapacidad visual frente a la experiencia de usuario en la página web de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Para ello se determinaron 5 categorías de análisis y a partir de ellas, se diseñaron entrevistas estructuradas y semiestructuradas y simulaciones de navegación a los participantes, con el fin de obtener la mayor cantidad de información y datos relevantes para la consolidación de una propuesta con los ajustes necesarios para convertir la página web de la Universidad, en un espacio incluyente. Con lo anterior, este estudio señala y demuestra que el sitio web de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, no está adaptado ni diseñado para ser usado y navegado por personas con discapacidad visual porque no se contemplan sus necesidades y requerimientos, generando sentimientos de frustración, estrés y confusión que conlleva a una experiencia de usuario lamentable. Por esta razón, resulta sumamente importante ajustar e implementar algunos elementos técnicos y de diseño que podrían convertir el Website de la Universidad en un espacio más óptimo y accesible (comprensible, operable, perceptible y robusta) para esta población. Finalmente, esta investigación busca darle voz a este grupo de estudiantes, concientizar y sensibilizar a la comunidad Javeriana frente a una brecha de desigualdad e invita a pensar la comunicación de las organizaciones, en espacios que puedan ser mucho más incluyentes, responsables y respetuosos frente a la diversidad y los derechos humanos, especialmente a los relativos a la igualdad de acceso a la información y comunicación.This research collects the experience of three students with visual disabilities and the contributions and suggestions of two experts in accessibility, design and visual impairment towards the user experience of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana website. For the development of the research, 5 categories of analysis were determined and based on them, structured, semi-structured interviews and navigation simulations were designed to apply them to the participants, in order to obtain the greatest amount of information and relevant data for the consolidation of a proposal with the necessary adjustments to make the University website, an inclusive space. With the above, this study points out that the website of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana is not adapted or either designed to be used and navigated by people with visual disabilities because their needs and requirements are not considered, generating frustration, stress and confusion leading to an unfortunate user experience. For this reason, it is extremely important to adjust and implement some technical and design elements that could turn the University website into a more optimal and accessible space (understandable, operable, perceptible and robust) for this population. Finally, this research seeks to give a voice to this group of students, raise awareness and sensitize the Javeriana community towards an inequality gap and invites us to think about the communication of organizations, in spaces that can be more inclusive, responsible and respectful in the face of diversity and human rights, especially those related to equal access to information and communication.Comunicador (a) SocialPregrad
