Angels in Belgrade

In this article, the figure of an angel is the interpretive key to read the work of Rastko Petrović novel Sa silama nemerljivim as a story about the impossibility of the sacred, but also a figure that allows to indicate the sources of artistic inspirations of the Serbian writer. His work, confirming the presence of religious tradition in culture, at the same time points to the incomprehensibility of this tradition, reveals its powerlessness in the light of the meaninglessness of human experience and the power of literary expression that cannot revive these religious symbols. Reading the literary reinterpretation of the parable of the prodigal son as a story stretched between the authority of the Bible (sacrum) and the authority of the Odyssey (profane), as illustrated by two types of angel characters appearing in the work, Rastko Petrović's novel is a parable of the impossibility of finding rescuing power and the inability to convert.U ovom tekstu figura anđela je interpretativni ključ za čitanje romana Rastka Petrovića Sa silama nemerljivim u kontekstu problematike nemogućeg sacrum i, istovremeno, figura koja omogućava da se dođe do izvora umetničkih inspiracija srpskog pisca. Dva različita tipa anđeoskih bića koja se pojavljuju u romanu upućuju na mogućnost čitanja književne reinterpretacije pripovesti o bludnom sinu kao teksta razapetog između autoriteta Biblije (sacrum) i autoriteta Odiseje (profanum); kao priče o nemogućnosti pronalaženja spasilačke snage i nemogućnosti konverzije – povratka. Petrovićev roman, potvrđujući prisustvo religiozne tradicije u kulturi, istovremeno naglašava nerazumljivost te tradicije, otkrivajući njenu nemoć pred besmislom ljudskog iskustva i nemoć književnog iskaza koji ne može da oživi verske simbole
