Thesis(Master) -- KDI School: Master of Public Policy, 2021International trade has become more competitive in certain market domains that countries with various endowments are obscured in those domains, such as high technology exports. This research paper focuses on determinants of high technology exports across specific country groups, namely the members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries. Studying key determinants related to these country groups aims to explain the reasons why certain countries are leading in high technology exports, while others, cannot catch up in this frontier. Based on the empirical data, this paper explores how their high technology exports are impacted by key determinants which are the number of patents by non-residents, the inflows of FDI, and global competitiveness of an economy through the use of Instrumental Variables 2SLS regression for selected countries in 2008-2019.
