MasterThe main questions on the pathway of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) reaction and the formation of ICT state for 4-(dimethylamino)benzonitrile (DMABN) remain unsolved despite extensive investigations. Under the condition of restrained solvation dynamics, which is strongly coupled to the ICT dynamics, through temperature control, measurements of absorption, steady state fluorescence and time –resolved fluorescence of 4-(1-Piperazinyl)benzonitrile (PZBN) an analogue of DMABN will be performed to resolve some of the controversies. Fluorescence maxima of the locally excited (LE) and ICT states of PZBN in tetrahydrofuran occur at 350 and 475 nm, respectively, and they are enough separated to be resolved.
