Selected field trips for the general shop programs at Sterling High School

Includes bibliographical references.The purpose of this study is of a double nature. First, it is to report on the conduction of four selected field trips made for the general shop program at Sterling High School. Second, it is to formulate plans for future field trips as a result of the experiences gained from the original group of field trips. To this writer’s knowledge no formal study has been conducted in this important area of education, which is planning and conducting field trips in Sterling. Sterling is an industrial town with a population of sixteen thousand. There are many varied resources for field trips for industrial arts. It would take considerable work to compile a possible comprehensive list of planned field trips. Four selected field trips were chosen for this paper. The criteria for choosing the places in which the field trips were taken are listed below. 1. Transportation was the first to be considered. This involved the tine element consumed, the traffic problem, and the parking facilities. 2. The type of factory or area of work was the second criterium. One shows mass production, another shows a job shop, another custom building of cabinets, and the lost an observation of electrical materials. 3. Next, the cooperation of the factory owners was included, Factories that allowed ninth graders to visit their plant were given primary consideration. The field trip is referred to as excursions, journeys, and tours in many different books. This writer will use the term "field trip" because it denotes study in the "field" other than that in a classroom.
