A study on the investment of temporarily idle school funds

Includes bibliographical references.The purposes of this thesis were to investigate varied aspects of the Investment of temporarily idle school funds by public elementary and high school districts and to develop data concerning the investment of idle school funds within the State of Illinois. An investigation of past research was used to provide information on the status of investing idle school funds throughout the United States. Original data on the invest* meat of funds throughout the State of Illinois was obtained by a questionnaire that was sent to the superintendents of 200 Illinois school districts. National and Illinois legal requirements were obtained from past research. Descriptions of types of investments, and investment principals and practices were developed through past research and personal interviews. It was concluded that throughout the United States and Illinois, school districts were earning substantial sums of money by investing idle funds. However, there were districts that were overlooking or under utilizing the investment of funds. About 80 per cent of the states had legal authorization for the investment of funds.
