Subsequent pigment analyses were performed on the cells in order to obtain information concerning the origin, synthesis, and structure of the pigment. Various media and environmental conditions were employed for the growth of the organism; and the pigment was collected and analyzed for its visible and ultraviolet spectra. It was shown that the mutant pigment differs under varied growth conditions and that it also differs from the wild type pigment. Finally, some insights into the origin and possible synthesis of the pigment were obtained.M.S. (Master of Science
