Impact des zones de subduction environnantes sur l'évolution tectonique de la Mer de Chine méridionale

This study focuses on the tectonic configuration of a rare example of the subduction-related opening on the downgoing plate of a subduction zone. The birth, the stages, and the cessation, of activity of the South China Sea (SCS) basin in Cenozoic seem to be related with the decay of the Proto-South China Sea (PSCS), by subduction in Borneo and Palawan. However, the mechanisms are still poorly constrained in terms of leading parameter and fundamental mechanism. Being narrow, the SCS margin offers the advantage of easily feasible correlation of sedimentary infill, structural styles and magmatic activities. The comprehensive and regional tectono-stratigraphic studies on subsurface seismic data and field observation could allow me to understand the genetic relation between the ocean opening and the adjacent subduction zone.The SCS continental crust stretching and thinning by ubiquitous large extensional detachment faults were expressed in a diachronous rifting and breakup, initiated in the east while rifting continued in the west until the propagator’s arrival. To illustrate the pre-breakup geometries of the southwestern SCS margins, we restore two conjugate sections near the first oceanic magnetic anomaly. The COT configuration, not only illustrates local asymmetrical hyper-extension, but also appears in map view to have a rhomb-shape controlled by N-S abrupt segments and E-W hyper-extended ones. The spatial variation of the crustal structures records an initial N-S extension simultaneous with the first phase of seafloor spreading in the eastern SCS, and a significant change of extensional direction shortly later (circa 23Ma) to NW-SE. During the post-spreading period, in the ocean floor, few key seismic images show that the local uplift in diameter of few kilometers goes with important magma production, interestingly within an episodic subsidence period in regional scale. This large global subsidence is anomalous compared to the theoretical thermal subsidence of post-rifting basins. Meanwhile, collision initiated since Late Oligocene in the PSCS, and mélange and shale-prone delta deposits characterize the shallow part of the accretionary wedge. This unit was occasionally brought to the surface and the overlying strata were deformed as circular synclines and anticlines. I, therefore, suspect that the mechanism of exposing the mélange involved a diapiric process that pushed this low viscosity material upward. Accordingly, the entire process illustrates a tectonic evolution involving shale tectonics from the end of the collision to the post-collision setting of northern Borneo, delineating an age of termination of orogeny when the seafloor spreading also ceased at ca. 16 Ma.The evolution of the rifting, spreading and cessation of rifting in the South China Sea seems to be controlled by the effect of subduction in the PSCS margin. The closure of the PSCS undergo a longer period of shortening in front of Palawan and Sabah where the oceanic domain is wide – none or very limited continental crust - whereas a limited shortening to the tip of the basin in the Sarawak region. The lithospheric heterogeneity of lower plate (thick continental crust in the south and thin one to oceanic in the north) induced a counterclockwise rotation off the subduction zone, and simultaneously, the contiguous SCS margin that change the extensional direction from N-S to NW-SE by 23Ma. The slab ultimately broke off in the Late Miocene to induce large plutons in the PSCS margin, and dramatic subsidence as well as local magmatic intrusions in the SCS during the post-spreading period. This suggests a slab detachment which provoked deep mantle upwelling to the surface. This dual tectonic evolution on two opposite margins therefore illustrates how far-field subduction process may impact the regional tectonics.Cette étude se concentre sur la configuration d'un exemple rare de l'ouverture d’un bassin sur la plaque plongeante d'une zone de subduction. Les étapes, la naissance et la cessation de l'activité du bassin de la mer de Chine méridionale (MDC) au Cénozoïque semblent être liées à la disparition de la Proto Mer Chine du Sud (PMDC), par subduction à Bornéo et à Palawan. Cependant, les mécanismes régissant les forces liées au système de subduction sont encore mal contraints. La MDC, étroite, permet d’établir une corrélation aisée en termes de remplissage sédimentaire, de style structural et d’activité magmatique. Les études régionales sur la base de données sismiques, dont le premier profil académique couvrant les marges opposées (ENS-GMGS), combinées à l'observation sur le terrain permettent de comprendre la relation entre l'ouverture océanique et la zone de subduction adjacente.L’étirement et l’amincissement de la croûte continentale de la MDC se sont traduits par un rifting et un breakup diachrones, d’Est en Ouest, à mesure qu’avançait le propagateur. Pour illustrer les géométries précédant l’éclatement des marges de la MDC, nous restaurons deux sections conjuguées près de la première anomalie magnétique océanique. La configuration COT montre non seulement l'hyper-extension, mais apparaît également comme ayant une forme de losanges contrôlés par des segments abrupts N-S et des segments hyper-étirés E-W. La variation spatiale des structures crustales enregistre une extension initiale N-S simultanément avec la première phase d’accrétion dans l'est de la MCS, et un changement de direction d'extension peu de temps après (~23Ma) vers le NW-SE. Pendant la période post-accrétion océanique, images sismiques montrent qu’un soulèvement local sur quelques kilomètres de diamètre s'accompagne de magmatisme, ce qui témoignerait de périodes de subsidence épisodique à l'échelle régionale. Cependant, une collision amorcée depuis la fin de l’Oligocène par la fin the la subduction de la PMDC, est marquée, outre des dépôts de delta, par des mélanges principalement sédimentaires argileux accumulant les résidus de l’érosion des zones émergées pendant la collision. Cette unité a été occasionnellement remontée à la surface et les strates sus-jacentes se déforment en synclinaux et anticlinaux circulaires. Je soupçonne donc que le mécanisme d'exposition du mélange impliquait un processus diapirique. L'ensemble du processus illustrerait ainsi une évolution tectonique impliquant une argilocinèse autour de la période syn et post-collision du nord de Bornéo, délimitant un âge de fin d'orogenèse synchrone de la fin de l’accrétion océanique de la MDC, il y a 16 Ma.L'évolution du rifting, de la propagation et de la cessation du rifting en mer de Chine méridionale semble donc être contrôlée par l'effet de la subduction de la PMDC. Sa fermeture subit en outre une plus longue période de raccourcissement à Palawan et Sabah où le domaine océanique est large - croûte continentale nulle ou très limitée - alors que le raccourcissement est limité à la pointe du bassin dans la région du Sarawak, ou la PMDC n’était qu’un rift continental fortement sédimenté (pas d’ophiolite présente). L'hétérogénéité lithosphérique de la plaque inférieure (croûte continentale épaisse au sud et mince à océanique au nord) a induit une rotation dans le sens antihoraire de la subduction, alors que simultanément, la MDC changeait, elle, d'une extension passant de NS à NW-SE à 23Ma. La lithosphère de la PMDC s'est finalement rompue au Miocène supérieur pour induire du magmatisme dans la marge, une forte subsidence, et enfin des intrusions magmatiques locales dans la MDC pendant la période post-rifting, suggérant que la lithosphère détachée a provoqué une remontée de matériel mantellique profond vers la surface. Cette évolution reflète la configuration tectonique deux marges opposées, sous l’influence des forces en champ lointain d’une subduction voisine.南中國海被認為是少數案例位於隱沒帶之上覆板塊的拉張盆地，從拉張作用的起源到終止，南中國海（南海）的大地構造演化皆強烈受到古南中國海（古南海）的隱沒作用影響。然而，這兩個被動與主動邊緣之間相對比的地質事件，以及區域性的地體動力與大地構造的機制仍然缺乏充分了解。固本研究利用構造地層學（tectono-stratigraphy）分析對比多頻道震測剖面（multichannel seismic, MCS）與野外露頭的觀察。利用南海與古南海的研究，提供詳細橫跨兩個邊緣的地層對比、地質構造描述以及岩漿作用。嘗試了解海盆擴張與比鄰的隱沒作用之間的關聯。南海大陸地殼的拉張與剪薄作用受到底拖（detachment）斷層主導，並且可將同拉張地層區分syn-rift I和syn-rift II兩個單位。syn-rift II的底部與大陸地殼破裂（breakup）的年代皆從南海的東部開始，往西南部越年輕，在地層表上形成不等時（diachronism）的現象。本研究描繪了西南部的南海大陸地殼破裂前的地殼構造，重建到此地區最早海洋磁力異常條帶的位置。兩條剖面展現同張裂的沉積層厚度有側向變化，較厚的沉積盆地呈現菱形狀的形貌，暗示受到南北向平移斷層的張裂盆地（pull-apart basin）。此南北向的拉張方向持續到陸殼破裂前（約20百萬年前），伴隨的海底擴張方向則變成西北-東南向。在後拉張時期的海洋地殼與沉積盆地中皆出現小規模的岩漿活動，岩漿的侵入在震測剖面上顯示地殼與上覆的沉積物受到伴隨的抬升作用。此岩漿作用導致在後張裂時期的熱沉降呈現多次事件，並總沉降量也異常高於理論的沉降值。在古南海的主動大陸邊緣中，大陸地殼在晚漸新世開始隱沒，開始碰撞造山運動。在淺層的增積岩體主要以泥質的混同層與三角洲沉積物組成，並在南海南端覆蓋在同張裂地層之上，成為與南海被動大陸邊緣地層對比的重要指標層。本研究在震測剖面中辨識一塑性變形的泥灌入體，並透過野外觀察確認其岩性為基質支持的混同層，確認碰撞作用在14百萬年前左右結束。在後碰撞時期的泥灌入體持續活動，活動的時間點與沙巴的京那巴鲁山（Mount Kinabalu）的岩漿入侵年代一致。此抬升作用影響上覆的地層，並沿著泥質的混同層變形，地層呈現相斜與背斜型的構造特徵。本研究發現南海海底擴張方向的改變可與婆羅洲的逆時鐘旋轉時間對應，並兩者地質作用皆在中中新世終止，顯示被動大陸邊緣的南海與古南海的主動大陸邊緣相互影響。本研究提出隱沒帶的岩石圈有側向變化有關。在23百萬年前，巴拉望與婆羅洲北部地區的下伏板塊為海洋岩石圈，持續進行隱沒作用。然而在婆羅洲南部下伏板塊以大陸岩石圈為主形成碰撞造山運動，導致隱沒帶引發逆時針的旋轉，影響南海的海底擴張作用從南北擴張方向漸變成西北-東南向。此下伏板塊最終在晚中新世拆離沿著隱沒帶形成大量的岩漿入侵。南海同時也形成許多後擴張時期來自深部地函的岩漿活動，並可能與板塊拆離和隨後的板塊沉沒導致岩漿作用有關。此研究描繪出兩種不同類型的大陸邊緣受到隱沒作用影響，兩邊的地質作用可以相互對比。南中國海、古南中國海、被動大陸邊緣、隱沒作用、海洋地質、地
