Rare Earth elements (REE) share a similar behaviour during magmatic processes. They are refractory, lithophile elements so that they concentrate in the silicate Earth. Among them, we count two long-lived isotope systematics: 138La-138Ce (T1/2 = 295.5 Ga) et 147Sm-143Nd (T1/2 = 106 Ga). Their coupling provides temporal constraints on the evolution of the silicate reservoirs (mantle – crust). Cerium is also known to be a redox sensitive element, able to change its mobility according to the other REE.
