Planets formed in a protoplanetary disc during the first million years of the solar system by accretion of various materials. Meteorites are the remnants of these early stages of the solar system and provide us information on its composition and evolution. The study of Nd isotope composition in meteorites showed that Earth may have a distinct composition in 142Nd/144Nd ratio, which is affected by the extinct decay of 146Sm to 142Nd (t1/2 = 103 Ma). This offset has been suggested as either an early fractionation of Sm and Nd on Earth or nucleosynthetic anomalies as evidenced for many other elements including Cr and Mo.
