Trace d'origine anthropique sur os: épistémologie et préhistoire. Le cas d'un ossement humain artéfactualisé du Mas d'Azil (Ariège).

mémoire de recherche en vue de l'obtention d'un master en Anthropologie à l'Université Paris Nanterre (144 pages).The reflection on the way to analyse the archeologic artifact in Prehistory, leading the prehistorian to formulate a methodology specific to the studied item, lead us to establish an interdisciplinary pairing at a crossroads between physical anthropology and osseous technology regarding Mas d'Azil's study of the human right humerus. Thanks to the dual analysis, both as a biological object and a technical object, and based on the three types of stigma found (cutout traces, reddish deposit, gloss), we drew an atypical mortuary operational chain. The right humerus of Mas d'Azil was firstly decarnilized and dismembered, then colored using a reddish liquid whitewash, and finally put into a bag and transported; it reveals the artifactualisation from which it holds the memory. The biography of the artifact offered therefore the possibility to understand an exceptional cultural practice for the considered zone and period. If our work is built on an epistemological reflexion on the way to analyse an anciently anthropized bone, it demonstrated the importance of this type of studies in the understanding of the last prehistorical groups in France. The analysis of Mas d'Azil's cutout human right humerus, glossed and ochred, offers a fundamental example of mortuary practices in prehistoric times and allows us to highlight the inclusion of the treatment of the corpse as a technical process that transformed the biological remnant into an artifact.La réflexion sur la manière d’analyser l’artéfact archéologique en Préhistoire, menant le préhistorien à devoir formuler une méthodologie propre au matériel étudié, nous a mené à mettre en place un couplage interdisciplinaire à l’interface entre anthropologie physique et technologie osseuse dans le cadre de l’étude de l’humérus droit humain du Mas d’Azil. Grâce à une analyse réalisée en double front, à la fois comme objet biologique et comme objet technique, d’après les trois types de stigmates relevés (traces de découpe, dépôt coloré rougeâtre, lustre), nous avons pu dégager une chaîne opératoire mortuaire atypique. D’abord décarnisé et démembré, puis coloré à l’aide d’un badigeon liquide rougeâtre et enfin probablement enveloppé dans un contenant semi-souple et transporté, l’humérus droit du Mas d’Azil révèle l’artéfactualisation dont il fut l’objet et porte la mémoire de par ses stigmates. La biographie de l’artéfact a ainsi offert la possibilité d’appréhender une pratique cultuelle au caractère d’exception pour la période et la zone considérées. Si notre entreprise se fonde sur une réflexion épistémologique sur la manière d’analyser l’os anciennement anthropisé, elle a démontré l’importance de ce type d’étude dans la compréhension des groupes préhistoriques en France. L’analyse de l’humérus droit humain incisé, ocré et lustré du Mas d’Azil offre un exemple fondamental des pratiques mortuaires à la Préhistoire et permet de mettre en avant l’inclusion du traitement du cadavre en tant que processus technique ayant transformé le reste biologique en artéfact
