This Habilitation dissertation summarises the work I have been carrying out for ten years in the field of mechanical metallurgy, more precisely, about the relationships between microstructure and in-service properties of metal alloys for structural components.Chapter I focuses on the characterisation of microstructures as inherited from the process history of the material and in particular from phase transformations. I have been making great use of electron backscatter diffraction to investigate the relationship between crystal orientation and spatial distribution of crystal units, which is called “microtexture”.
