Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and aggressive skin cancer with an unfavorable prognosis related to early metastatic dissemination. The early detection is a major issue to improve the patient’s overall survival. Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs) are cells that detached from solid tumor, go into the circulating system and can form distant metastasis. Their detection, by the liquid biopsy, can bring many clinical information, including early detection of cancer relapse. This thesis was aimed at detecting CTCs in Merkel Cell Carcinoma through the development of a new detection method in this malignancy. This R-D method (combining RosetteSep and DEPArray technologies) was compared to CellSearch, the Gold-Standard for CTC detection, in a cohor...
