The presence of large colonies of seabirds breeding on the Chesterfield Islands suggests the occurrence of abundant resources at sea in the central Coral Sea. Being able to locate these resource hot spots in a perspective of management and conservation of marine ecosystems in the Coral Sea is a major challenge. The objective of the MOMALIS mission to the Chesterfield Islands was to determine the foraging strategies and feeding ecology of seabirds breeding on the Chesterfield Islands and to understand the oceanographic mechanisms that lead to the concentration of marine prey searched by seabirds.
