International audienceNowadays Greek and Roman marble statuary is appreciated for its whiteness, but traces of colours, more or less preserved, attest that the Ancients used to paint the statues. Accumulating archaeometrical data in favour of an original polychromy force us to reconsider those patrimonial objects from a new perspective. But the secular valorisation of their whiteness makes difficult a patrimonialization of the colour, for scientists, curators and visitors alike.
