Cuprates are materials that have attracted a lot of attention when it was discovered that they become superconducting at temperatures above the boiling point of nitrogen. Since then, a large amount of experimental and theoretical works have been devoted to the understanding of the phase diagram of these materials. One of the main controversial point is the nature of the state from which superconductivity emerges, the pseudogap. Indeed, it defies the Fermi liquid theory for metals and presents a series of competing electronic instabilities that are difficult to disentangle.
