Si-B-C matrix composites reinforced by SiC fibers are under development as thermostructural materials for aerospace applications. The self-healing matrix protects the fibers against an oxygen attack thanks to the formation of a viscous oxide (B2O3 at T1000°C) which seals off the cracks. Nevertheless, the volatilization of B2O3 is enhanced under moisture atmosphere between 500-1000°C because of theformation of volatile HxByOz species. The aim of this work is to stabilize B2O3 at temperatures under 1000°C in water vapor by addition of an element into the matrix.
