C/C composites undergo oxidation beyond 450°C under an air flow. Oxidation occurs preferentially at fibre-matrix interfacial zones (zones of weak cohesion) and it progresses from the surface to the core of the composite. Internal protections have been envisaged to limit interfacial oxidation. In a first step, carbon fibres have been treated with oxidation inhibitors (H3P04, H3B03) or coated with deposits made of boron, silicon or phosphorous or implanted with B+ ions and their oxidation resistance investigated. In a second step, the treated preforms were infiltrated with carbon and the oxidation of the C/C composites studied.
