Mass condensation of an inorganic precursor of boron nitride, borazine, was used in order to prepare mesophasic polycyclic products named polycondensed borazine (PCB). The PCB synthesized this way may transform into a liquid crystal state prefiguring the boron nitride hexagonal structure, this state being obtained after mixing an appropriate solvent. PCB were used as interphase precursor of BN in minicomposites Hi-Nicalon/BN/SiC, elaborated by dip-coating followed by a pyrolysis process.
