National audienceCrack propagation in a vitreous biopolymer material is studied using Discrete Element Method (DEM). A local mixture mode is observed by the action of a stress concentrator in the material. Experimental evidence of crack deviation is highlighted under the condition of unstable crack propagation for the studied notched specimens. The validity of the DEM predictions is checked by comparing the result to a Finite Element analysis under similar conditions.
