This master’s thesis is dealing with the representation of Arab women in Hollywood by analyzing three main stereotypes, the exotic Arab woman, the veiled and submissive Arab woman, and finally the terrorist Arab woman. We question to what extent these movies constitute the majority of the representations of Arab women in Hollywood, what functions do these characters fulfill in their own movies and more generally speaking, the American cinema and finally, what social phenomena are underlined by these historical imagery. In order to answer these interrogations and grasp the issue, four films were chosen, Aladdin, Death before Dishonor, Protocol and Black Sunday.
