International audienceMaps are central in the management of collective risk, either « natural » risks or man-made risks. The article presents a sociotechnical analysis of cartographic tools, encountered inside two local scenes of risk: Nantes and Le Havre metropolis. It puts forward their production context as well as the various ways they are used: objectify and visualize a hazard, build awareness of a concerned public, regulate urbanism, or plan and coordinate crisis management. If those maps are designed for a specific purpose, they travel between risks and crisis management actors.
