Se estudió el tramo del río Salado cercano a la desembocadura en la Bahía de Samborombón en donde se encuentra el cordón de conchillas litoral (Platense), a través de parámetros químicos como salinidad y composición iónica, entre julio de 2000 y abril de 2001. En dicho tramo, por influencia del canal 15 (ensanchado y profundizado en 1997) presenta muy bajo caudal, provocando en la región cambios ecológicos y socioeconómicos significativos. Como consecuencia, durante la marea alta invaden su cauce las aguas de esta bahía, de alto contenido salino. Por otra parte, se registra la presencia de aguas de baja salinidad provenientes del acuífero del cordón de conchillas.
