War Correspondents' Memorial Arch, near Boonsboro, Maryland, circa 1930-1944. Caption reads: "Only monument in the world to the memory of war correspondents, this unusual piece of masonry was erected by George Alfred Townsend, famous author and war correspondent. Located in Washington County, Maryland, on top of South Mountain, at Gapland, a few miles southeast of Boonsboro, off U.S. Route 40. Visited annually by thousands."
