This Currier and Ives lithograph depicts the Main Building, the largest building at the Centennial International Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876. The caption of the print gives the dimensions of the Main Building as 1,880 feet long and 464 feet wide, with an area of 20.02 acres on the ground floor and 1.45 acres on the upper floors. Designed by Henry Pettit and Joseph M. Wilson, the Main Building was constructed by Richard J. Dobbins and completed in February 1876 at a cost of $1,580,000. The building housed the mining and metallurgy, manufactures, and education and science exhibits
