Edwin Warfield was born May 7, 1848 at Oakdale, Howard county, Maryland. He began teaching public school in Howard County in 1866, while also studying law. He was appointed to the position of register of wills in 1874 and served in that capacity until 1881. In that same year, Warfield was elected to the Maryland State Senate.
