English, as one of compulsory subjects in formal schools in Indonesia has been being taught as a foreign language from very early level using various kinds of material. One of the materials used is literary works. Unfortunately, literary works most of the time have been treated traditionally in the classrooms. Literary texts were only worth as texts to help students in reading and (or) listening in-class exercises. Syllabus designers and the teachers have been becoming comfortable in treating literary works in that traditional way. They later on, with various reasons, found it difficult to use the texts in their teaching. Considering the advantages of involving and using literary works as material in English as Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms while looking at the phenomenon, this study was conducted to find out the benefits as well as the difficulties found by teachers in including and involving literary works in their EFL teaching
