Proceeding Seminar &Call For Papers : Business Dynamics Toward Competitive Economic Region Of Asean (Salatiga : 2014), p. 1049 - 1066Generally, social capital is the productive value of a set of social institutions and norms, including group trust, expected cooperative behaviours with predictable punishments for deviations, and a shared history of successful collective action, that raises expectations for participation in future cooperative behavior. These value and norms are believed and done by majority of society members in the daily livelihood. Moreover, they directly impact on quality of individual life and sustainability of their communities. Robert Putnam (1993) defines social capital as a mutual trust value within society members and between society members and their leader. The social capital is said as a social institution that involve network, norms and social belief that encourages a social collaboration to achieve their goal. This paper analyzes the effect the social capital on per capita expenditure. The paper uses data from Indonesia Family Life Survey, in particular, from the third an forth waves (IFLS3 and IFLS4) and the household as the unit of analysis. We test whether formal or informal social participat ion (as a measure of social capital) increase the probability of families to attract their consumption expenditure. Employing Ordinary Least Square method, the empirical results seem to support those hypotheses. To sum up, we can conclude that sosial capital has a positive impact on per capita household expenditur
