En este artículo se realiza un acercamiento al género de la tragedia neoclásica a través del análisis del tratamiento, uso y función del recurso del contraste en las principales composiciones trágicas del siglo XVIII en España con especial incidencia en el análisis de los personajes. El contraste se convierte en un recurso de enorme utilidad a la hora de hacer efectivo el didactismo de estas composiciones, al servicio de la mentalidad ilustrada de una sociedad absolutista.
