International audienceThe terminology that deals with the linguistic phenomenon of neology is fairly untrue to several of the principles it is generally granted. First, a large number of terms, which are either in a synonymic or hyperonymic relationship, actually name similar realities. The terminological principle of an onomasiological perspective - which stipulates that a concept be given a unique denomination - is thus at fault. Then, the linguistic terms that are used to deal with neology contravene the principle of monosemy since there are cases of ambiguity due to polysemy, cases of homonymy as well as conceptual fuzziness.
