It is used both as a methodological tool in description and as a theoretical foundation of several key concepts in cognitive processes. However, many authors have stressed that the exact nature of frequency still remains unclear, both from a theoretical and from a methodological point of view, and that the relation of operationalization between these two frequencies is not clearly established.
