Surgical site infection (SSI) constitutes the third most frequent healthcare associated infection in France. “Classic” epidemiological approaches have already allowed to decrease SSI rate of approximately 50% in 20 years. Despite these improvements, the incidence rate and the crude number of SSI stay important in France. New tools may improve the understanding and the prevention of SSI. In first, through a clinical approach of the SSI prevention, we have evaluated the efficacy of a gentamicin-impregnated collagen sponge reduce sternal wound infections in high-risk cardiac surgery patients.
