Genetic diversity can be seen as a fundamental element in forest sustainability. Information about the genetics of trees can be obtained from provenance studies. Previous research has demonstrated that white spruce exhibits a high amount of genetic diversity. This study related genetic variation in white spruce to the ecodistrict level of the ecological land classification maps released by the Canada Committee on Ecological Land Classification in 1995
