Ticket of Location granting Elizabeth Haines of Niagara 200 acres of land, 1821-1823

Thomas Ridout (1754-1829) was the Surveyor General of Upper Canada from 1810 to 1829. He held several other offices as well, including registrar of York County, sergeant-at-arms to the House of Assembly, and clerk of the peace for the Home District.A Ticket of Location granting Elizabeth Haines of Louth Township, U.E. Loyalist, 200 acres of land in Garafraxa Township, Halton County, District of Gore. The document notes that the grant is “subject to the settling Duties required by the Order in Council of the 20th of October, 1818, of Five Acres cleared and fences, along the length of the front adjacent to the road, for every Hundred Acres granted; a Dwelling-house, of sixteen feet by twenty in the clear, and one half of the Road cleared in front and rear of each Lot; the whole to be performed within two years from the date hereof”. The document is dated November 23, 1821 and is signed by Thomas Ridout, Surveyor General. A note beneath the signature reads “the settlement duty performed as attested…” and is dated March 1823
