This thesis aims at giving a better understanding of present Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) results for biofuels in order to identify their potential and breathing spaces from an energy consumption and GreenHouse Gases (GHG) emissions point of view. To this end, LCA methodology and existing studies on first generation biofuels were reviewed; then a sensitivity analysis on methodological and data parameters allowed identifying the roots of the discrepancies of results. Methodological choices appeared to be very crucial elements for final results and recommendations were made for LCA carrying out for biofuels.
