The strength of metals, and therefore their maximum operating temperature, can be improvedby oxide dispersion strengthening (ODS). Numerous research studies are carried out at the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in order to develop a cladding tube material for Gen IV nuclear power reactors. Oxide dispersion strengthened steels appear to be the most promising candidates for such application, which demand a minimum operating temperature of (650℃).
