This paper attempts to show that the articulation of the Latin American economy with the industrialized market economy countries, as well as with the socialist countries, reached its peak around the years 1980 and 1981 and that in the same time period until the end of the decade, perhaps until the year 2000, that relationship will remain stagnant. As a result, Latin America will have no choice but to intensify economic cooperation and trade within the continent and, to a lesser extent, with the countries of Africa and Asia.
