This essay addresses the problems that the abrupt and in some cases surprising changes that have occurred in the world system in recent years have posed to Cuban foreign political and economic relations. In this contribution, reference is made broadly and schematically to the internal economic, political and ideological processes that, together with the dynamics of the international scene, have conditioned the external projection of the Cuban Revolution.
