Chile was from the colonial period a passive social formation in the configuration of international relations. Its colonial peripheral economic condition, with respect to the pole of the Viceroyalty of Lima, was projected to this day through the dependence under the imperial order of the pax britannica and, later, under the subordination of the North American hegemony. However, there were periods in which this condition could cease to be a historical constant. At the present time, when financial and trade ties with the United States are deepening, in the absence of political dissidence, it is important to review the country's relations with the hegemonic powers, from a historical, comparative, and overall perspective.Chile fue desde el período colonial una formación social pasiva en la configuración de las relaciones internacionales.
