The following essay addresses the therapeutic use that occupational therapists give to the occupation, from the field of physical health rehabilitation. The concept of occupation is based on a historical vision and is contrasted with the conceptualization that can be applied to the work of occupational therapists working in this field. Throughout the paper, the impact of physical dysfunction on the execution of significant occupations in people suffering from this condition is addressed. It is argued in favor of maintaining the occupation as the core of the therapeutic intervention and the utility it presents as a resource for professional intervention.
