Many studies have discussed changes in the growth and shrinkage of cities primarily through population indicators. However, both population and economic activity indicators should consider because it has a limitation that it is difficult to fully capture the growth and shrinkage of cities only by population change. In the study, a conceptual model of 8 quadrants of growth and shrinkage involving both the demographic and economic aspects proposed. The characteristics of different types of growth and shrinkage patterns were analyzed, focusing on Korean cities.
