This article aims to raise discussions about the presence of the samba circle in the short story Ana Davenga (1995), by Conceição Evaristo, from historical tradition aspects. Initially, the importance of samba is recognized as a form of entertainment for Afro-Brazilian communities, considering the cultural influences from Africa. Thus, support is searched in the theoretical references of Hermano Vianna in the work O Misterio do Samba (1995), Feitiço Decente (2012) by Carlos Sandroni, O Terreiro e a Cidade (2002), by Muniz Sodré, among others.
