Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are Gram-positive bacteria, generally regarded as safe (GRAS) organisms. LAB, widely used in the food industry, are present in the intestine of most animals, including human beings. Therefore, LAB could be used for heterologous protein expression and they are good potential candidates as antigen delivery vehicles. In this paper, several delivery systems are described, particularly those which are able to lead the heterologous protein to specific cell locations, such as cytoplasm, cell wall or extra cellular medium.Nevertheless, more emphasis is given to the LAB delivery systems which are able to secrete the antigens in those strains.As bactérias do ácido láctico (BAL) são gram-positivas e organismos considerados s...
