On November 9, 1990, the French Malacological Society held a symposium in Brest whose theme was “Marine Mollucs : Biology and Aquaculture”. The symposium was made up of 120 French scientists belonging, for the most part, to the Universities and to IFREMER as well as 30 foreigners representing principally Spain, Belgium, Algeria, Morocco, Senegal, Chile, 16 communications were presented. Besides a Gastropod (Concholepas from Chile) and a Cephalopod (cuttlefish), it was the Bivalves that were the focus of the discussions, and in particular the Pectinids (great scalop, scallop) and the Ostreidae (European flat oyster, Japanese oyster). The subjects discussed were divers and included bacterial ecology in larval rearing tanks, molluscan biology ...
