Problems in Teaching Idioms through Recount Texts at SMA Negeri 5 Seram Bagian Barat

This study aimed to investigate the problems an English teacher faces in teaching idioms through recount texts and how the teacher deals with the difficulties in teaching idioms. The approach used in the study was a narrative inquiry. This study was conducted at SMA Negeri 5 Seram Bagian Barat. The research subject was an English teacher who teaches eleventh graders. This study used the qualitative method with a narrative inquiry approach as the technique. To collect the data, the researcher used the interview equipped with an interview guide, and to process the data, the researcher used thematic analysis to filter the data, the researcher coded the data, and used the table to clear the data to search for the answers that related with research questions. Then to check the trustworthiness, the teacher discussed with the teacher, and the researcher analyzed the codes to form the themes. Based on this research, the researcher found that teacher faced two problems: the students are unfamiliar with the idioms, and most of the students lack of vocabulary. In solving the problems, the teacher trained the students to deduce the meaning of the context from the texts. This strategy can positively impact for eleventh graders means that it assisted them in understanding the meaning of idioms based on the context and improved students' learning in the process. The teacher gave the students more understanding of the idioms in context with dialogue concepts for practicing. By second strategy of the concept of dialogue, the students played a fundamental role in using idioms in the context, so the students enjoyed the learning process and increased their vocabulary. This strategy helped the teacher in teaching idioms through recount texts also, it solved the teacher's difficulty in teaching
