For the next 20 years, the quantity of air travelers in the world is expected to rise to almost the double of the current number. This growth is followed by the eminent increase of greenhouse gas emissions linked to climate change. Another obvious consequence is the higher operation cost for airline companies. These factors explain the need for better efficiency for modern aircrafts. Among these studies there is the Smart Morphing and Sensing European Project.
