The drive towards sustainable construction materials that will reduce the amount of CO2 produced during the manufacture of Portland cement has led researchers to investigate the suitability of alternative materials in concrete production. The use of industrial and agricultural by-products such as fly ash, slag, rice husk ash, and natural pozzolanas high in aluminosilicate content have been found useful in the production of geopolymer concrete which has become a suitable replacement for OPC concrete with its higher strength, temperature stability, denser microstructure, higher bond strength, and resistance to chemicals.
