Chatter is one of the main problems in machining resulting in poor surface finish and low productivity. Stability models can be used to determine stable cutting conditions with higher productivity. Although majority of the machining systems involve muti dimensional dynamics, most of the stability models consider a single dimension in the formulation. This seminar willl give a brief overview of the multi dimensional models that we have developed for turning, boring and milling processes. The turning stability model considers the tool and part dynamics in two directions as well as insert nose radius.
