Types of wound and wound healing from the perspective of traditional iranian medicine (Tim)

Wound healing is a complex cascade of events that led to reconstruct a damaged tissue with cellular and biological mechanisms. Along with chemical drugs, in some case, herbal remedies work better and with fewer side effects. Almost 30 of traditional drugs applied to dermal disturbance and wound, while, only 1-3 of modern drugs are allocated to this goal. Traditional Iranian Medicine (TIM) is a rich knowledge source based on herbal drugs for treating diseases including treatment of various wounds. In TIM, wound in general has been known as Tafarrogh-e-ettesal that means tissue disconnection, which includes different wounds: Scratch (kharash): A superficial wound that cause damage only to the skin. Wound or injury (jerahat): A wound that in addition to the skin caused damage to its underlying tissue, but it is not infectious. In TIM, this type of wound divided into 10 subgroups. Sore or ulcer (ghorhe): A wound that in addition to the skin caused damage to its underlying tissue, but it is infectious. This wound include some subgroups as well. In TIM sources, special treatment methods have been mentioned such as dietary plans and using of herbal, mineral and animal drugs, for every type of wounds. On the other hand, the principles mentioned in modern medicine, are considered in TIM too; include, cleaning and washing the wound site from infection and pollutants, using medicines that dry the pus and infections; but it is accented that the applied drugs should not have high drying characteristics but the wound should be wet and its infection and serous fluid should be repelled and allow the meat to grow at the wound. The aim of this study is to review the treatments mentioned in TIM sources for various wounds. Given that the TIM possesses a great potential to cure different diseases, it is possible to arrive to novel achievements in pharmacotherapy using the previous experiences and exploiting today's technology and knowledge. © 2020 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
