Science Fiction writers draw on mythical imaginary quite often, relying on ancient myths to construct new worlds in which the writer's ideological vision is portrayed in a symbolic way. The Chilean Elena Aldunate (1925-2005) is an example of such authors. In her novel Del cosmos las quieren vírgenes (1977), Aldunate masterfully combines several biblical and classical myths creating a hero narrative in which the saviour figure is a female character.
